ECONOSEAL Cartoning and Product Handling Integration
Single sourcing continues to be a trend among customers looking for packaging machinery solutions. Recently, ECONOCORP – www.econocorp.com - was working on a cartoning project for a very difficult to handle tapered candle that needing to be collated and loaded into an 18 count retail display carton. The cartoning and loading portion of this project was well within our expertise but when the equipment hit our shop floor, we struggled mightily with the conveying of the candles to the cartoner load station. This was a portion of the project that everyone passed over as “no big deal” but the taper of the product actually caused them to be quite unstable. They would “bridge” badly when they pushed against one another and would also fall over easily when a gate would withdraw to release them to the cartoner load station.
Rather than spinning our wheels and trying to re-invent the wheel, we called in Garvey Corporation of Blue Anchor, NJ - www.garvey.com – who, among many other things, are the experts in handling tapered products. They provided us with a bi-flow accumulator, low back pressure conveyor, and accessories to handle and contain these tapered products. Problem solved. The line consisting of the Garvey conveyor handling system and the ECONOSEAL E-System 2000 cartoner – http://www.econocorp.com/data/e-2000brochure.pdf - has now been in production for many months and the customer is realizing record production numbers daily with minimum labor on the line.
